An Observer investigation has found irregularities in how the Houston ISD superintendent's Colorado charter school nonprofit did business in Texas. Houston Independent School District (HISD) Superintendent Mike Miles claims to be a financial wizard. But controversy has followed the former military man-turned-school administrator to nearly every Texas school district he’s served. In 2012, he was hired by the Dallas Independent School District (DISD), only to be ousted by a majority of the school board three years later after an investigation showed Miles violated district policies.

San Angelo ISD Announces Additional New Principal and Leadership for the 2024-2025 School Year
San Angelo ISD is pleased to announce additional new principal and district leadership in advance of the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Dr. Marissa Contreras Guerrero is the new principal of Bradford Elementary, replacing Berta Sepulveda. Dr. Guerrero most recently served as associate principal at Lincoln Middle School for the past five years. She has been in education for 30 years, all with San Angelo ISD. Dr. Guerrero started her journey with San Angelo ISD as a bus driver and after completing college she served as a secondary mathematics teacher. She also served as a mathematics department head, instructional coach, at-risk coordinator and assistant principal. Dr. Guerrero holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction and School Administration from Angelo State University. She also holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and School Administration from Texas Tech University.

Well over 3.5 million Texans were forced to be without power to warm their homes and the Texas Department of State Health Services declared that 246 was the official death toll because of Winter Storm Uri in Texas. Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott asked the Republican-controlled Texas State Legislature to conduct investigations into what preparations and decisions were made by ERCOT in advance of Winter Storm Uri.
