It’s that time of year where speculation swirls around the baseball world, and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in the middle of some of the conversation. The Major League Baseball trade deadline is a few days away. Teams have until Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET to either gear up for a postseason run or build for the future.
Steelers fans have a right to be disappointed with Najee Harris
The most prominent headline from the opening of the Steelers training camp is Najee Harris' disappointment that the Steelers declined his 5th-year option. Admittedly, he wants to stay in Pittsburgh and hopefully get an extension, but barring some sort of miracle, an extension by the Steelers will not happen. The...

Pirates Interest in Another Marlin Portends Possible Blockbuster Trade
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates are scouting Miami Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz. This comes on the heels of news that the Pirates have shown interest in another Marlins outfielder, Jazz Chisholm Jr. For the Pirates to go all-in on the National League Wild Card race, they need to add two outfield bats. Perhaps they’ll fill those needs with one trade.
Talented cornerback makes triumphant return to Steelers training camp
Perhaps the most exciting news to come out of Steelers training camp after the first day of practice was the sighting of Cory Trice practicing without a knee brace. This is a significant development as it indicates his full recovery from the ACL injury that sidelined him in 2023. His return comes at an opportune time, given the challenges the Steelers might have at the cornerback position early in the 2024 season.

Van Jefferson Quickly Securing Steelers WR2 Spot
The Pittsburgh Steelers are only through their first two days of training camp, so it would be unwise to draw any major conclusions. After a long offseason, though, it is fun to talk about who is standing out and who hasn’t lived up to expectations. A key standout for the Steelers so far has been new wide receiver Van Jefferson. Although Jefferson just came to Pittsburgh this offseason, he entered camp as the favorite to win the Steelers WR2 job. Through two days of camp, he is further cementing himself as the frontrunner for that spot.
