Well-Spoken Writers Club seeks entries in short story contest
The Well-Spoken Writers Club, a group of writers from Riverhead and Southold, has announced it is sponsoring a short story contest with the theme, “autumn.” Submit your story with no more than 1,200 words by October 31, 2024, to wellspokenwriters@gmail.com. The winner will receive a $50 gift card to the locally owned bookstore, A Book Place, located at 489 East Main Street in Riverhead.
Coffee, conversation and card tricks — Riverhead Police host meet-and-greet events around town
Riverhead Police held five “Coffee with a Cop” sessions across town yesterday, to meet and chat with residents and hear their concerns and ideas. Officers spent time at four different locations, from Wading River to Jamesport, yesterday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Police returned to a popular East Main Street delicatessen yesterday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 to chat again with members of the Latino community at a time of day when more residents are likely to be free to talk.
