Go Now! Sheriff issues Level 3 evacuation notices for Durkee Fire
DURKEE — Baker County Sheriff’s Office is notifying residents in the Rye Valley area about a Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation for that area due to the Durkee Fire, according to an updated on its Facebook page at about 10:20 a.m. MT Friday morning. This impacts communities all the way from Durkee to the northeastern edge of the Cow Valley Fire, near Brogan. The map shows the Cow Valley footprint as being surrounded by Level 2 (Be Set) evacuation areas.
Durkee Fire advances 'at an alarming rate toward Brogan'
BROGAN -- Fire resources are spread thin throughout southeastern Oregon with active fires seeing substantial growth today, including the Durkee Fire in Baker County. As of Friday morning, the fire was estimated at 2,699 acres and 0% contained. As of 7 p.m. Friday, it has grown to about 15,577 acres and wind continues to push it southward toward Malheur Reservoir, Brogan and Huntington, where large fires were all just recently extinguished.

Fire threatens community of Durkee
DURKEE — At 6 a.m. July 18, Northwest Team 6 took command of the lightning caused Durkee Fire in Baker County. At that time it was estimated to be about 3,000 acres, located south of the town of Durkee, and west of Cottonwood Gulch near the Burnt River. "Surplus resources from the Cow Valley Fire are being used to help assess and suppress the Durkee fire," according to an update from the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
