Two subjects, an adult male and adult female, were seen at the residence and deputies attempted to contact them but were unsuccessful, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

Chaos erupted as the male suspect opened fire within the residence reportedly at the deputies’ drone when it flew inside the building, according to initial information at the scene.

Deputies established a perimeter while evacuating neighboring residences. SWAT was called to respond to the scene for reports of a barricaded suspect and possible hostage, reported the KCSO.

The SWAT team quickly surrounded the area, initiating a dramatic standoff.

About two hours into the standoff, a woman who had been inside the residence managed to escape, running to safety. It is unknown if she was being held inside the residence.

As the standoff stretched into its third hour, the suspect allegedly turned the gun on himself, ending the intense confrontation.

The suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment of one self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the KCSO.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Kern County Sheriff’s Office at (661)861-3110 or Kern Secret Witness at (661)322-4040.
