White Forest Nursery looking into prospect buyers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Six decades of history are going nowhere. After Jere White announced he was retiring, many feared his business would close.

“You know it’s kind of been heartfelt because people have been coming in, sad to see us go, and they were really sad about all the years of good relations with them, you know, to see that end,” said Jere White, Founder and President of White Forest Nursery. “So, that part is kind of sad.”

Interested buyers are stepping up to keep The White Forest Nursery going.

“We probably had hundreds over all, however, when they learned it was Bakersfield, that dwindled down a little bit,” said White. “We do have several, there’s at least five if not six people interested in looking at it right now.”

An important decision he’s taking for work family.

“Picking the buyer is a big deal to me personally. It’s kind of our baby, that’s for sure, we want to make sure it happens, but just as importantly it needs to be a good match with our current employees,” said White. “Because they’re really good people. We want a good place where they’re comfortable, to have a good place to work.”

Stepping down from the nursery does not mean White is leaving his love for plants. On the contrary, White wants to invest more time in another one of his businesses.

“Beneficial microbes that we manufacture and have been for the last 17 years or so,” said White. “We can go in and make better production agriculturally, we can get better healthy plants, but most importantly we can actually increase the nutritional value of those fruits and vegetables. Make it for everybody, to be more healthy.”
