    Highway 178 and 99 freeway rank 9th deadliest roads in California

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Two roads in Kern County have tied for ninth place in the deadliest roads in California, according to a study by Consumer Affairs.

    The study reported Highway 178 and the 99 freeway, that runs through Bakersfield, made the list of the top 10 worst roads.

    According to the study, seven people died on each of those roads in 2018 and nearly doubled in 2022.

    Three speeding fatalities were reported on Highway 178 , while five deaths were reported on Highway 99, according to the study.

    Both highways also reported DUI deaths.

    Three drinking related deaths took place on Highway 178, while the 99 freeway reported one alcohol related fatality in 2022.

    The I-15 in San Bernardino was ranked the deadliest road in the Golden State. Five other roads in southern California also made the the top ten including, the I-5 and the 101 Freeway.
