    Grab a free meal at the Kern County Library and enjoy ‘Books In Motion’

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Library is doing their part to keep kids educated and fed throughout the scorching hot summer months .

    The library’s summer lunch program, also known as, “Lunch at the Library” offers children two through 18 a free lunch meal at any branch countywide. Reports show 10% of people in Kern County live with food insecurity, and one in every five children is hungry.

    ‘Books in Motion’ brings learning to life at Kern County Library branches

    The initiative aims to keep kids belly’s fed while actively promoting education. The libraries summer reading challenge is a “win-win” situation for children and parents, according to Kern County Library spokesperson, Fahra Daredia.

    The challenge, open to all ages, allows participants who read 10 books, or 10 hours, to receive a free book to take home. The program is an excellent way to prepare children for the upcoming school year. It’s also a great way to prevent children from experiencing “brain drain.”

    “Books In Motion” brings dancers from the Kern Dance Alliance to bring books to life, the most recent being a performance of Peter Pan.
