    Coroner ID’s man struck, killed on Hwy 178 on the Fourth of July

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified a man who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 178 near Beale Avenue on the Fourth of July.

    Coroner officials say, Frank Julio Raygoza, 61, of Bakersfield was struck by a vehicle in the area at 9:04 p.m. Raygoza was pronounced dead at the scene.

    CHP officers say the night of the incident a Nissan was traveling in the number one lane on the westbound highway at about 70 mph. Raygoza ran across across the lanes directly in front of the Nissan.

    The driver of the Nissan was unable to avoid Raygoza.

    The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
