BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — This week marks five years since the brutal killing of Bakersfield businessman Jose Arredondo .

Arredondo was found dead in his Cabo San Lucas condo on July 15, 2019. Arredondo had been beaten and tortured police in Mexico said.

Less than two weeks after the high-profile murder, Mexican police announced they had evidence to prove that Roberto Gonzalez — a long-time friend and golfing buddy of Arredondo — was involved in the murder.

Gonzalez spent 14 months in jail, but the state’s case unraveled when a judge ruled police obtained evidence through illegal and improper means. Arredondo’s sister Laura Arredondo said the case is still being investigated.

“It’s been hard. … You say five years it seems like overnight, but its been five years of struggle.”
