BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET)– Earlier this year, we introduced you to one powerful pooch by the name of Roo. She was born without her front legs, and with viewer’s help, she has been able to get a wheelchair.

It all happened in a matter of hours.

Hundreds of dollars were raised after 17 News’ generous viewers fell in love with Roo’s story.
Dogs with disabilities can be seen throughout the country.

Recent technology has given them a new chance at life. Roo, named after a hopping Kangaroo, is what’s known as a bipedal. She was born with only two hind legs.

She could get around but would be much more able-bodied with a wheelchair.
Within hours of her story being aired, viewers donated hundreds of dollars to a GoFundMe page.

“I was just in absolute awe of just how fast our goal was hit… that was really overwhelming. I thought that maybe we’d get like half of the amount and then to see that it exceeded the amount… I’m incredibly grateful,” Roo’s Owner Torie Beck said.

The donations allowed Roo to get a custom-made wheelchair. Specially made for her body’s dimensions it can adjust with weight fluctuations.

Day by day, Roo is getting more practice with her new set of wheels.

“It takes a lot of muscles and a lot of work, so we’re still trying to make it where she’s running around. She’s she’s taking to it really well… we work for treats,” Beck said.

More importantly, she’s brought awareness to animals that have disabilities. Roo’s not alone.

In fact, when we saw her, she had just gotten back from Lake Tahoe, where she spent time with other pups with disabilities and wheelchairs.

It gave a vision of what might be to come.

“Seeing what her life might be like in just a few months was really a neat feeling. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone that donated and everyone involved. Seeing all of the people that donated that haven’t even met Roo.. it really took me back. I’m incredibly grateful,” Beck joyfully explained.
