Back-to-school events in Bakersfield, Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Believe it or not, the new school year is upon us. School campuses will be filled with kids in new outfits and gear including supplies and backpacks.

Various organizations and nonprofits are holding events before that first day of school giving away backpacks and supplies.

Check the list below to find out when and where these events are taking place.

THP Memorial Foundation Back-to-school Backpack Giveaway

THP Memorial Foundation and local businesses are hosting a back-to-school event on Sunday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cecil Avenue Middle School located at 1430 Cecil Ave.

Organizers said while supplies last, this event will give away backpacks and school supplies to students (but they must be present to get a backpack). Kids 12 and under with wristbands can also get a free haircut.

City of Delano Back-to-school Open House

The City of Delano Department of Recreation and Kern County Child Support Services is hosting an event Sunday, July 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 260 W. 11th Ave.

The event will provide information on current and upcoming recreation programs and offer free backpacks, haircuts, arts and crafts for kids.

Blessing Corner Back-to-school Fun Day

The Blessing Corner on Union Avenue is having its annual backpack giveaway on Aug. 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Click here to find out more.

Dignity Health Bakersfield Back-to-school

Students up the 12th grade can get school supplies and backpacks from Dignity Health Bakersfield on July 27. The event is a drive-thru event at 1919 16th St. Click here to find out more.
