BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Sheriff’s deputies were serving up Thrifty ice cream and talking to the community Saturday.

On July 20, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office hosted “Cones with a Cop” at the Rite Aid on Airport Drive. Deputies helped serve up ice cream from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while chatting with the community.

Lori Meza, Public Information Officer for KCSO, says it’s a great way for deputies and families to connect.

“Ice cream brings people together. Most people like ice cream,” said Meza.” So, it’s just a wonderful opportunity for people to engage with children, their parents and anyone in the community who just wants to talk to a deputy, and not have to deal with them on one of the worst days of their lives.”

This is one of many events hosted by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, with the goal of connecting the community and forming a positive relationship with law enforcement.
