BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A community town hall meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday for a Bakersfield neighborhood that went without water on the cusp of the summer’s hottest days.

The town hall meeting is scheduled for July 24, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Shirley Lane Elementary School located at 6714 Shirley Ln.

More than 200 homes in the area of Weedpatch, Fairfax, and Shirley Lane went without water starting the weekend of June 21 leaving residents to resort to hoses and water bottles.

Dangerous heat continues, excessive heat warning in effect until Wednesday

Water wells owned by the Victory Mutual Water Company were shut down, and the East Niles Community Services District stepped in to get water to residents.

Then the water was restored and residents were placed under a boil water notice that has since been lifted.

One resident said she still doesn’t drink the water.

“To me I don’t think so. It isn’t ready yet,” resident Daisy Guillen said. “I just want that water to be safe for all of us. For our kids you know. Our dogs too. Our animals. That’s what worries me more.”

On June 28, the Kern County Health Department said the water is safe to drink, but many residents are still boiling their water.
