Leonard, 57 at the time, drove a 2012 Dodge Charger east on Powder River Avenue toward Phairfield Street the night of Sept. 22, 2023. He failed to negotiate a southbound turn and the car rumbled across Phairfield and plowed into the home, according to California Highway Patrol.

Two children, 5 and 7, became pinned under the vehicle after it smashed into a bedroom, according to CHP. They suffered serious injuries.
