BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield SPCA is bringing young animal lovers and needy animals together for its annual Kids and Critters day camp.

The day camp will be held at the SPCA shelter on Gibson Street, through the end of next week. Kids get to learn skills while helping to care for shelter animals, including cat and dog sitting, obedience training and first aid and animal safety.

The shelter brought out a pool and splash pad to help everyone beat the heat on Wednesday.

Campers say it’s a real hit.

“It’s all about the dogs. They’re really cute and I like playing with them,” Sophia Khalil and Lucky said.

“Something special about the day camp is if you don’t have a dog, you get to learn how to take care of a dog, the responsibilities,” Ariel Rosa, SPCA Camp Counselor said.

There’s still one more week left in this camp. For more information, click here .
