BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene of a structure fire after a semi-truck crashed into a house in Wofford Heights Thursday afternoon, officials said.

When KCFD arrived, said the truck was coming down Evans Grade when the brakes went out. The semi-truck then crashed through a power-pole and into a propane tank. The driver crawled out of the wreckage.

Fire officials said the driver suffered burns and life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was transported to an area hospital by Liberty Ambulance. The residents of the home were away at the time of the crash. KCFD confirmed this after searching through the burned home.

The crash started a structure and grass fire. Air support and wildland crews were dispatched to contain the flames. Fire crews went from house-to-house evacuating and notifying neighbors in the neighborhood abut the fire.
