Kern Democratic Party asks Wasco Mayor Alex Garcia to resign

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Democratic Party is calling for Wasco City Mayor Alex Garcia to resign over allegations circulating on social media allegedly involving the mayor.

In a statement, the Kern County Democratic Party calls on Mayor Garcia to resign from his position on the Wasco City Council in order to avid distraction.

The party said through a press release it, “condemns any acts of violence, sexual assault and harassment in any form, especially when involving an individual who cannot give consent, such as a minor.”

A news release from the Wasco City manager’s office Monday said, “The City of Wasco is very concerned about these allegations and will continue to cooperate with the Bakersfield Police Department and any other agencies to ensure all the facts in this matter are brought to light quickly.”

Neither the Democratic Party, the City of Wasco or the Bakersfield Police Department described what the allegations were.

Garcia has not returned multiple calls asking for comment.
