BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — PG&E wants people to be aware of scammers out there.

According to the utility provider, scammers are out in force this summer, using the fact that bills are higher.

PG&E saw hundreds of scam attempts made in the Central Valley in May and June, including 107 in Bakersfield alone.

Scammers can disguise their numbers so that the call looks like it comes from PG&E.

The scammers make threatening calls to customers saying their power will be cut off immediately if payment is not made.

According to the PG&E website, some scammers may then ask for payment made to a gift card, through a payment app such as Venmo or Zelle.
