Art submissions wanted for Downey Pride Festival
DOWNEY – The Downey Arts Coalition is seeking artists to participate in the fourth annual Downey Pride Festival, taking place Saturday, Aug. 10, in Downtown Downey. The art show’s theme is “Love is Love.” To be eligible for display, artwork must reflect at least one of the following themes: love, inclusion, respect, empathy, self-love, identity, lifestyle, diversity, hearts or rainbows.
Man Fatally Shot in Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet, Suspect Arrested Amid Gang-Related Violence Investigation
A man was fatally shot at the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet, as reported by ABC7. The incident occurred late Sunday afternoon, and one person has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. When police arrived after receiving reports about a fight shortly after 5:00 P.M., they found a man with a gunshot wound, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police initially did not identify the victim, describing him as a man between 25 and 30 years old.

Possibly armed man arrested after barricading inside of South LA mini market
A man who was possibly armed with a gun was arrested following a brief standoff with police at a South Los Angeles mini market on Tuesday. Officers were first sent to the scene, a market in the 2900 block of S. San Pedro Street, at around 3 p.m. after learning of a man who allegedly had a gun, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. After arrival, they set up a large perimeter around the area as they attempted to get the suspect to come out of the building. After some time, SWAT was called to the scene, arriving in several BearCats that swarmed the front of the store. At around 6 p.m., officers say that the suspect was taken into custody but did not provide any further information. No injuries were reported in the incident.
