Leaders call on New Haven families to complete FAFSA with help from local grant
The City of New Haven along with congressional and state leaders are calling on students to complete their federal financial aid application. On Friday a press conference was held at James Hillhouse High School to discuss how a local youth program is working with families to complete the form and the importance of getting it done.
Taste of Rhode Island Hosts Summer Series Event
Taste of Rhode Island, a celebration of Rhode Island’s great food, local spirits and live entertainment, returned to the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick with its Summer Series on June 5. The event, produced by Pat Paolino Cruz, Pat Cruz Events, and Lupe Aguilar, Rhody Foody, showcased more than 50 of the state’s best restaurants, bakeries and caterers alongside local and regional wineries, distilleries and breweries. Guests were treated to live music, cooking demonstrations, a red carpet, and photo booth opportunities and a chance to vote for their favorite tastes along with celebrity guest judges. VIP ticket holders received early admission, swag bags with treats and access to a separate VIP lounge area. Taste of Rhode Island corporate sponsors included The Perry Group and Luke Renchan Entertainment. The event supports Rhode Island-based nonprofit MAE Organization for the Homeless.

A former city housing official will spearhead new efforts to convert blighted properties into affordable housing through a quasi-public land bank. Serena Neal-Sanjurjo, the former director of the city’s anti-blight Livable City Initiative (LCI), announced that role as the executive director of the newly-formed New Haven Land Bank at a press conference at City Hall on Friday afternoon.
