Sanford Health Receives AHA Award For Stroke Care
(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sanford Medical Center is being honored by the American Heart Association for its outstanding stroke patient care. The “Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus” recognition means the USD Medical Center is saving more lives and reducing disability for those who suffered a stroke by using the latest research and evidence-based guidelines. Strokes happen when a blood vessel carrying oxygen to the brain is blocked by a clot or bursts and are the fifth leading cause of death and disability in the U.S.
Police Release Name of Sioux Falls Crash Victim
(Sioux Falls, SD) — Police are identifying the man who died in a Sioux Falls crash last week as John Louis Martin. The 63-year-old Sioux Falls man was killed last week on East 26th Street near Village Square Circle when the pickup truck he was driving crossed the westbound lanes of traffic and hit a light pole and a tree. The crash is still being investigated.

Delbridge museum collection expenses cast doubt on future in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls City Council is exploring options for the popular Delbridge Museum collection, but money appears to be a major obstacle. A work group says it would cost over a million dollars to restore the collection, and more than that to house it in a new location on city zoo property. As a result, the collection may find a new home outside the city.
Eilers Furs plans new location, holds moving sale
BrandyAnn Fiala’s decision to move the business she has owned for 18 months follows a tradition set earlier in Eilers Furs’ 97-year history. German immigrant William Eilers established a retail store in Huron in 1927. His younger son, Bill, moved Eilers to Rapid City in 1955 and opened a store in Sioux Falls in 1975. Several other stores were opened following that move. In 1991, preparing for retirement, he reached out to a former employee, then living in Marquette, Michigan. Gail Iwinski and her husband, Leonard, purchased Eilers Furs.
SF Ambush wins 3rd Presidents Cup Soccer title for Dakota Alliance
WICHITA, KS (Dakota News Now) -The Sioux Falls Ambush girls made it to the USYS Presidents Cup championships by finishing 2nd in the Region Tournament held in Sioux Falls in June. The top two teams in each age bracket advanced to Wichita, KS and as irony would have it, EBU-Wisconsin defeated Ambush in that title game in South Dakota.
Yankton and SF West get Legion Baseball doubleheader sweeps
YANKTON and SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -It was a busy night for Legion Baseball Tuesday night in both Yankton and Sioux Falls. Yankton won a pair of thrilling 6-5 games over Renner as two of South Dakota’s best clashed. Easton Feser smashed a solo HR in game one and Owen Wishon knocked in Matthew Sheldon with the tying run in the 5th inning and the game-winner in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 7th for a 6-5 win. The second game ended with the same score on a bases-leaded walk.

Work is progressing on the site of the future Hill City Ambulance building. People driving by the site this week may have noticed some large machinery, including a Cat 320 excavator with a drill head on it, a Cat 316 with a modified rock breaker on it and a Cat 279 skid loader.

Faith was one of many communities across the state of South Dakota to experience damage from a storm that rolled through Saturday night. Not long before 11:00 pm Saturday night the rain hit Faith along with gail force winds in the range of 80 -100 + miles per hour. As the rain came down while the wind reaked havoc, area residents rode out the storm and waited to assess the damage after.

Brookings Regional Humane Society Takes in Over 50 Animals, Intake Temporarily Closed
{KXLG – Brookings, SD} The Brookings Regional Humane Society (BRHS) is facing a temporary closure of its animal intake services due to a large influx of animals. In coordination with Brookings Community Service Officers, undertook an urgent animal intake operation involving over 55 cats, kittens, and four dogs from a single household. The homeowner had unfortunately passed away, leaving the animals in need of shelter and care.
