Mervo High School teacher charged with sexual assault of minor in Baltimore County
BALTIMORE - A Baltimore City high school teacher is charged with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl who lived in the same apartment complex, according to court documents. Lewis Laury, 24, is charged with second-degree rape and sexual offense in the third degree. Police said Laury is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with the minor. Laury is a teacher at Baltimore's Merganthaler Vocational-Technical High School, according to the school's website. The girl was reported missing by Baltimore County Police on June 21 and found a week later at Laury's home, according to charging documents.Baltimore County detectives worked with other law enforcement agencies and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to locate her.Laury is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

UPS to close local hub for redo, 540 workers affected
Hundreds of United Parcel Service Inc. workers will be affected as the shipping giant temporarily closes a Baltimore County facility for renovations. Atlanta-based UPS, (NYSE: UPS) will shut down its facility at 3901 Vero Road in Halethorpe on Aug. 23 for modernization improvements, a UPS spokesperson wrote in an email. The company expects the facility to reopen in late 2025, and in the meantime, the hub's 540 workers will either work in an on-site temporary UPS facility, transfer to other nearby facilities or find other work. The shutdown comes months after UPS laid off nearly 120 workers from the same plant in March when it cut a package sorting shift.

A man who drew police gunfire as he fled a Dundalk traffic stop Sunday has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. Before midnight in the 3300 block of McShane Way, Baltimore County Police officers pulled over a man and while speaking observed a gun between his legs, police said Tuesday. The driver then ignored orders to raise his hands and accelerated, dragging an officer before crashing in an alleyway, police said.
