Since 2021, when everyone realized how much we all missed hugging in person, Current Space has thrown their seasonal Members Party in their backyard Garden Bar. The event has grown along with the multi-functional art space’s membership—which now stands at 235 and counting.

We can’t recommend joining enough. Memberships start at just $5 a month, which includes a 10% discount on drinks, while top-tier members ($25/month) get free entry to all Current events (an always-awesome, curated roster of things like plays, fashion shows, workshops, and concerts!). But most importantly, the membership program helps keep one of Baltimore’s hardest-working art spaces afloat and accessible, “Members have had a huge impact on our capacity and we’re deeply thankful for their support,” Current co-directors Michael Benevento and Julianne Hamilton wrote me, “Members help us afford everything from stipends for artists during free programming to the electric bill, and being able to count on their monthly support really helps us plan out the year.” Supporters at all levels receive additional perks including invites to special members-only events like this one—always one of the parties I look forward to the most every year.

Last Saturday, the most recent Members Party featured live projections by Tony Rutka and beats from DJ Paul Campion. I am kicking myself for being out of town last week, but thankfully digital and film photographer Oliver Maddox captured the fun and sent some photos our way to stoke my FOMO.

If, like me, you’re missing Current Space and a fan of Maddox’s photography, be sure to check out their work in the upcoming group exhibition Social Contracts, which opens on Saturday, March 9th from 7-10pm.
