Several elected officials met at the Maryland Cruise Terminal for the Key Bridge Response Tour for a first-hand look by boat concerning the Key Bridge collapse. Members who were invited were from the Senate Finance Committee and the House Transportation and Environment Subcommittee.

Members and their staff have received regular Zoom calls for updates during the recovery and salvage efforts since the March 26 tragedy.

The elected officials wore life jackets for the 90-minute boat ride. The members were given a safety brief and were briefed by the Unified Command and the Maryland Department of Transportation prior to boarding the boat.

As the boat approached the site, a hush and silence came over the boat as the boat approached the site. No one on board knew that the sixth and final worker’s body was recovered earlier that day. “It was a breath-taking experience which I will never forget”, says Sen. Kathy Klausmeier (D-8)

“The Key Bridge not only has a direct impact on the Port of Baltimore but an economic impact nationally and internationally,” says Delegate Ric Metzgar (R-6). “The Key Bridge collapse impacted many more families than the six families of the workers. Everyone was touched emotionally and spiritually by what happened here”, concluded Del. Metzgar.
