A 48-year-old man was pronounced dead after rescue crews pulled him from the water Sunday afternoon at Middle Branch Park, according to Baltimore Police.

Police said the man’s body was recovered after officers and fire department crews responded at around 12:30 p.m. to a water rescue call at 3300 Waterview Ave.

The man’s body was taken from the park to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, police said.

It was not immediately clear how the man ended up in the water. The 150-acre waterfront park in South Baltimore sits just north of Cherry Hill, with a view of the city’s skyline visible over the Patapsco River’s “middle branch” next to the Hanover Street Bridge. The park has fishing piers as well as ramps for kayaking, canoeing and boating, and is home to the city’s community rowing club.
