Grandma's advice sees two-time lottery winner bag $150,000

A Maryland man won the lottery twice with his grandmother's advice and secured $150,000 in prizes . He is now sharing her wisdom with the world.

"My grandmother told me that not everyone can be lucky every day," the man told the Maryland Lottery . His trick is quite a rational way to continue to play the game without spending too much.

The Baltimore resident buys two scratch-off tickets when he feels the desire to play the lottery. If neither ticket is a winner, that's it for the day. If one has any amount of winnings on it, he continues to buy tickets and play the game.

That's the technique that led him to a $50,000 prize on a Mega Money ticket he bought at EZ Quick Food Market on Mountain Road in Pasadena. He told lottery officials that his grandmother's advice has "earned him more than $150,000 in prize money over the years."

"I've won big twice before, but the last time was a long time ago," he said. "I wasn't sure it would ever happen again," he says. Meanwhile, in North Carolina, a Father's Day lottery tradition finally paid off this year , netting a man a $250,000 jackpot prize.

William Bon Viso, of Wilmington, North Carolina , said his aunt usually gifts him a scratch-off lottery card for the holiday, but this year, she gifted him $20 in cash. So, to carry out his tradition, he used the $20 to buy his own card.

It ended up earning him $250,000. "I kept the tradition and bought them myself," the father told the North Carolina Education Lottery . "A $20 Father's Day gift became a blessing."

He told the lottery he double-checked his ticket and began shaking because he couldn't believe how much he'd won. He said he felt like he was "in another world," that he was "on a cloud."

"The screen said, 'Winner, claim at headquarters,'" Bon Viso told the lottery. "I was like, 'Holy cow! This is a big one!'" He said he promptly told some buddies of his that he had won as well as a few family members, and many didn't believe him at first.

"Life is just all about timing," Bon Viso told the lottery. "It just shows you have to always follow your gut." He reportedly claimed his prize at lottery headquarters on Friday, opting to take a lump sum. After the required state and federal tax withholdings, he was handed $178,751, the lottery revealed.
