Ravens' MVP Lamar Jackson lands shockingly low on list of most 'clutch' NFL quarterbacks

The Baltimore Ravens saw their 2023 season come to a crashing close in the AFC Championship, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Lamar Jackson didn’t perform well, the coaching staff didn’t coach well, and Baltimore didn’t do enough to deserve to win the game.

On a list by Douglas Clawson of CBS Sports, Jackson was ranked No. 9 behind multiple quarterbacks, which many consider to be far worse than the two-time MVP of the league. When explaining why, Clawson mentioned that Jackson’s clutch performances in the postseason haven’t been up to standard.

“Jackson has the third-highest conversion rate on these clutch drives (48 percent) among active starters behind only C.J. Stroud and Patrick Mahomes…Problem is, he hasn’t delivered in the clutch in the postseason and he was one of the reasons the Ravens blew so many fourth-quarter leads recently…He has 16 total touchdowns and 15 turnovers in the fourth quarter in the last three years, while the Ravens have blown the most seven-point leads in the fourth quarter in a three-year span in NFL history (nine).”

Jackson has put together plenty of clutch performances, and while his playoff clutch factor hasn’t been put on display, that shouldn’t discount what else he’s been able to do. Multiple players should not be ahead of Jackson on this list, and Jackson is being punished far more harshly than some of the other signal callers.
