‘Special Appreciation Award’ recognizes Carter Machinery’s support for individuals with developmental disabilities

The Arc Baltimore has presented a Special Appreciation Award to Carter Machinery, officials from the organization announced July 7.

For more than a decade, Carter (previously Alban CAT) has been integral to The Arc’s Adopt-a-Family Program, showcasing a steadfast dedication to supporting people with developmental disabilities.

Presented during The Arc Baltimore’s recent Annual Meeting and Awards Reception, the Special Appreciation Award is given to individuals or groups who render truly outstanding assistance to The Arc Baltimore and the people with developmental disabilities whom The Arc supports.

Carter Machinery has locations in Essex and Rosedale.

Marianne Bishoff, regional human resources manager at Carter Machinery, was present at the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the company.

“Over the years, numerous employees at Carter have taken great care in selecting and wrapping gifts for our Adopt-a-Family Program, ensuring every child with a disability and their siblings and caregivers receive items from their wish lists,” said Kathleen McNally Durkin, CEO of The Arc Baltimore.

“Their heartfelt deliveries exemplify the collective spirit of the Carter team.”

Durkin notes that Carter Machinery is also committed to The Arc Baltimore’s mission as a valued employer of people the organization supports. In 2016, The Arc honored Carter as Employer of the Year.

For more than 90 years, Carter Machinery has been focused on enabling the highest level of success for its customers and team members. This mission has allowed Carter to grow from humble beginnings in southwest Virginia to a current network of more than 30 locations across Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia and a team of more than 2,300 professionals.

Carter sells and supports the full line of Caterpillar equipment, engines, and electric power generation systems.

The company’s intent is to be an integral partner with its customers by employing the latest technologies, data insights, and application expertise so maximum uptime and return on investment is realized.

The Arc Baltimore’s Annual Meeting and Awards Reception provides an opportunity for the organization to recognize those who have gone the extra mile in their service to The Arc and those people with developmental disabilities who are recipients of its programs and services.

As in past years, the event featured numerous recognitions, as well as the election of The Arc Baltimore’s new board of directors and officers.

The Arc supports people with developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling lives with a sense of belonging, purpose, and meaningful relationships.

The organization also provides employment training and support, day and residential services, family support and education, treatment foster care, respite care, public policy advocacy, and information and referrals.
