Baltimore Ravens 2024 Training Camp Preview

NFL training camps are set to get underway in the coming weeks, and the first team to have rookies reporting is the Baltimore Ravens. This team was in the AFC Championship last season, and after an up-and-down off-season, they will be looking to advance further in the playoffs, hopefully leading to a Super Bowl appearance. With the AFC North being as competitive a division as there is in football, and the AFC in general being loaded, they have a tough road ahead. But it all begins in camp, and here we will bring you the Ravens 2024 training camp preview.

Three Position Battles To Watch

Outside Linebacker: Kyle Van Noy, Adisa Isaac, David Ojabo

It’s clear that the lead outside linebacker for the Ravens entering their 2024 training camp is Odafe Oweh, but it is unclear who will be his running mate. While Kyle Van Noy could be viewed as the leader in the clubhouse for his veteran experience and a career year in sacks last season with nine, this team did draft Adisa Isaac in the third round and still has David Ojabo waiting in the wings. Ojabo has been hit with the injury bug during his career but had a ton of promise coming out of Michigan. Van Noy might be the “safe” pick, but I wouldn’t be stunned if one of these young guys has a great camp and wins the job.

Right Tackle: Roger Rosengarten, Daniel Faalele, Josh Jones

When I wrote the draft profile on Roger Rosengarten, I had concerns about his ability to play outside in the NFL. Clearly, the Ravens heading into training camp do not have those same concerns, as he is slated to be vying for the starting right tackle spot. Josh Jones has been the starter, and has been *fine* but it isn’t up to NFL standard. Daniel Faalele has been the backup for the last few years and has shown flashes of good play in limited action. I still believe Rosengarten is best suited to play inside at guard, but if I had to guess, he starts at RT at some point during the season.

Cornerback Opposite Marlon Humphrey: Nate Wiggins, Brandon Stephens, T.J. Tampa

Let’s go ahead and get Brandon Stephens out of consideration. Nothing against the guy, but he does not stand a chance going up against Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa.

Now, the battle will be between Wiggins and Tampa, but guys I had high grades on coming out. Trey had him as a first-round pick, and I had Tampa as an early day-two pick. It would not be like the Ravens to tout out two rookies in the secondary, but I believe we are going to see a ton of sets this year with both Wiggins and Tampa in the secondary. I believe that Wiggins is going to win the CB2 spot, but don’t be surprised if we see a good amount of Tampa as well.

Ready To Breakout: Nate Wiggins

Easy enough of a transition, as I believe the player most ready to break out for this team is Nate Wiggins. Every year, it seems we find rookies who make a huge impact on their teams early and often. This year, that player will be Wiggins for the Ravens, and they will see this during training camp. His real opportunity as a player is he doesn’t show a lot of fight at times, and I guarantee that will be corrected while playing in Baltimore.

Rookie To Watch: Rasheen Ali

For the sake of variety, I won’t go to Wiggins or Tampa here. However, the Ravens picked Rasheen Ali in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he has a real opportunity to carve out a role in this Ravens backfield. I loved what I saw out of Ali at the Senior Bowl before suffering a torn biceps injury, but had him as a sleeper in the draft. With Keaton Mitchell recovering, Justice Hill being an inconsistent question mark and Gus Edwards getting up there in age, there’s a small window of opportunity for Ali to see playing time this season, and it all starts during the Ravens’ training camp.

Fantasy Sleeper: Devontez Walker

Apparently, this is an all-rookie preview instead of a Ravens training camp preview, as we look to yet another rookie to highlight here. Devontez Walker had an underwhelming off-season leading into the NFL Draft, but I have high hopes for him. There is no real competition for targets outside of Zay Flowers, so Walker could easily become the number two receiver at some point during the season. He’s significantly more explosive than Rashod Bateman and could pair very well with Flowers on the outside and Mark Andrews at TE.

The Baltimore Ravens training camp should answer a lot of questions, but this entire team still falls on the shoulders of the reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. This team goes where he takes them, but there is that playoff hurdle he has to get over still. The AFC North is going to be a ton of fun to watch this season, as Baltimore, Cincinnati or Pittsburgh could win that division.
