The Baltimore Ravens have a lot of competition for snaps at running back behind Derrick Henry. The newly-signed veteran will carry a workhorse load most likely, but the RB to spell him at times is still undetermined.

Justice Hill may emerge as the top option for that job after the latest update out of Baltimore.

Ravens place RB Keaton Mitchell on injury list

Accordingly, Mitchell won’t be available to participate at the start of training camp on July 21st. He continues to rehab from his ACL injury that he suffered last season. The young RB is entering his third season in the NFL.

Mitchell totaled 47 carries for 396 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season in 2022. Last year, Mitchell had nine carries for 73 yards (8.1 YPC) and two catches for 15 yards before he left the team's matchup against Jacksonville.

Many fans thought Mitchell could emerge as the team's top runner alongside QB Lamar Jackson. His quickness and burst are exciting.

Now, he probably won't return to action until October or November. Mitchell suffered the injury last December. Injuries have really hindered his time in the pros so far. Dr. Jesse Morse noted some of tough breaks for Mitchell so far below.

Mitchell was an UDFA out of ECU who struggled to stay healthy in his rookie season, playing in only 8 games, but was super exciting to watch when he was on the field.

Mitchell suffered a shoulder injury in preseason that was likely either a shoulder dislocation or a moderate AC sprain. The Ravens placed him on IR and he missed the first 6 games of the season. Then in his first NFL game he strained his hamstring costing him another game. He had the highest elusive rating for an NFL running back in 2023 (per PFF) with 152.2... Unfortunately he only made it 6 games before tearing his ACL. He had surgery on December 30th and won't be 9 months out until Week 1.

The Ravens also placed pass rusher Adisa Isaac on the non-football injury list.

Isaac is a pass rusher who was selected with the 93rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. We will see how his timetable for return unfolds as well.
