While a woman was stopping by a Maryland store to pick up some party favors, she decided to buy a lottery ticket.

“On a whim,” she picked up a Keno ticket from the Baltimore store on July 15, Maryland Lottery officials said in a July 16 news release.

“I didn’t think much of it at the time,” the woman told lottery officials.

Little did she know, her whim would be “life-changing.”

The following day, she checked her ticket using her phone.

“I was stunned,” the woman told lottery officials.

In an “extraordinary stroke of luck,” the woman won $240,000, officials said.

“I broke down in tears. I never thought I would win this amount of money,” the woman said, per the release. “Even though you dream about winning, it’s shocking when it actually happens. I couldn’t do anything but cry tears of joy.”

The woman told lottery officials she’s only told her mother and boyfriend about her win, adding that she plans to use her winnings to help her mother retire.

“She always worries about money and her children, so I hope this money can ease her mind and convince her to stop working,” the woman told lottery officials.

This is the woman’s second big win playing Keno, according to officials. She also took home a $60,000 win in 2021.
