Address: 1221 N. Calvert St., Baltimore

    List price: $1,000,000

    Year built: 1886

Real estate agent: Marc Cashin of McEnearney Associates, Inc.

    Last sold price/date: For $330,000 on Nov. 20, 2014

Property size: This 3,698-square-foot house has six bedrooms, three bathrooms and one half-bathroom, an enclosed backyard and five parking spaces.

Unique features: Long before she was the Duchess of Windsor and beloved by the British King Edward VIII, a young Wallis Warfield Simpson attended Miss O’Donnell’s School in this elegant townhouse — and later returned to take tea with her beloved former teacher, Ada O’Donnell Boone.

This 18-room home in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon has had just five owners in its 138-year history. The original owners, Sarah and Francis White, date back to the early settlers and were philanthropists who held fundraisers at the home for impoverished families and for children with special needs.

The current owners took the home through a complete historic restoration in 2015. They spent more than $350,000 on renovations to stained glass windows and crystal chandeliers. They refinished the original solid cherry floors, the white oak staircase and pocket doors and restored the brick walls.

This house has an exterior of creamy white marble brick and bay windows. Inside are eight fireplaces, many with marble surrounds and intricately carved mantels. There are crown moldings and an original free-standing claw-foot bathtub from 1876.

There are 14-foot ceilings, oversized windows and a full basement extending the length of the house.

Despite the sensitive restoration, the current owners didn’t shirk on modern conveniences. The restoration includes include a new kitchen and bathrooms, plus updated heating, plumbing, and electric systems.

In the open kitchen, the warmth of an exposed brick wall contrasts harmoniously with cabinets and countertops in a cool and soothing white. In the primary bathroom, the antique soaking tub shares space with a large walk-in shower.

The back door exits onto an exposed deck, a short flight of stairs above the bricked-in backyard.

And did we mention that there’s room for five parking spaces?
