Orioles reportedly interested in surprising blockbuster trade for Tigers ace

How about potentially acquiring the Cy Young favorite in the American League?

According to Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated , the Orioles are interested in a potential blockbuster trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

Verducci reported both the Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers are "interested in putting together packages loaded with top prospects for Skubal."

This, of course, means the Tigers would be willing to part ways with the Cy Young frontrunner who is still under team control through the 2026 season.

The Orioles have a loaded lineup led by Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman, but they could use some help with the starting rotation.

The offseason trade for Corbin Burnes is working out splendidly, and Grayson Rodriguez is putting together a strong campaign in his second season.

Adding Skubal to the list would give Baltimore a formidable trio that could secure the top spot in the AL East while riding that rotation through the playoffs.

Skubal has been the best starting pitcher in the American League this season despite the Tigers likely being sellers at the deadline. The 27-year-old is 10-3 with a 2.41 ERA, 116 strikeouts, 21 walks and a 0.88 WHIP in 116 innings.

The fact that he's still under team control for 2.5 years means the package to acquire him is far more expensive, but the Orioles have talent to spare in the minor leagues.

Taking advantage of this window will be crucial for the Orioles considering the struggles the New York Yankees have endured since the middle of June.

If they land Skubal in a blockbuster deal, their odds as World Series contenders should skyrocket.
