Ravens’ latest roster move to sign a former Pro Bowler is one we all should have pictured coming

Anytime you can add a 30-year-old veteran football player who has played at a high level in the NFL at a cost-efficient rate, you do it. At least good teams do and that is exactly what the Baltimore Ravens will be in 2024, a good team.

It seems like each year we watch the Ravens make that one small splash move before training camp that makes sense. It happened when they signed Jadeveon Clowney last season and it is happening again here.

Baltimore has announced they’ve signed veteran safety Eddie Jackson to a one-year deal to make him a member of the Ravens. While the safety position isn’t the biggest need on the roster, it is a spot where they needed depth and Jackson fits the bill to be just that.

Coming to a new team for the first time in his career, Jackson will be reuniting with linebacker Roquan Smith, who he played alongside with in Chicago with the Bears. Jackson was a fourth-round pick of the Bears back in 2017 and has started all 100 games that he has played in over the last seven seasons.

Baltimore has arguably the best safety in the NFL with Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams is a strong player as well. By adding Jackson into the mix, you may be hard-pressed to find a better safety trio in the entire NFL. Ar’Darius Washington will provide depth for the Ravens as well after Geno Stone signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency.

Jackson was a first-team All-Pro recipient in 2018 when he had a career-high six interceptions. His other Pro Bowl came in 2019 and it must be noted that Jackson has missed multiple games in each of the last three seasons.

After reaching the AFC Championship last season, the Ravens plan to compete once again. Signing Jackson is a piece of the puzzle that can help make that happen.
