Every year it seems the Baltimore Ravens make that one move right before or during training camp that is an underrated boost to the roster.

This year, it appears that guy is former Pro Bowl safety Eddie Jackson. Baltimore signed Jackson to be their third safety recently and he has the ability to be a pretty strong addition to the defense.

"I'm very excited to bring in Eddie Jackson,” head coach John Harbaugh said on Sunday. “He's a guy that ... I can remember it like it was yesterday. Boy, time flies – life is short, run to the ball. I remember him running to the ball for Alabama when we're looking at the draft and having all of these good years in Chicago [and] playing against him. Now to have him here – I happened to be at the hotel last night doing bed check when he came in on his flight. I was like, 'You're taller than I remember,' and I just saw him three days ago. He's ready to go. Big simile on his face, [and he's] very excited."

Joining the Ravens, Jackson reunited with his former teammate and current All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith. The two were teammates on the Chicago Bears defense from 2018-2022. Smith played a role in getting Jackson to Baltimore.

“I always tell the truth,” Smith continued. “I have great respect for Eddie and [I’ve] known Eddie since I came into the league. Like I said earlier, I think he’s a great asset for our team. [He’s] obviously been making plays in this league for a very long time, and with the pieces that we have here, and then with his talent, and having him in his role, I think it will go well for us.”

Jackson, 30, won’t be relied on to start for the defense, Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams will hold down that. Instead, Jackson can be that third safety and have an impact in doing so. When the season is all said and done, we may be asking how Baltimore got Jackson for next to nothing.
