Orioles called 'best fit' for superstar who surprisingly could be traded

The Baltimore Orioles are considered by many to be one of the top contenders to win the World Series this year, but that doesn't mean that the club shouldn't be looking for ways to improve over the next few days.

Baltimore is in a great spot but the starting rotation has been plagued by injuries all season to this point. The Orioles could get a boost in the next few days, though. Baltimore has the top farm system in baseball and has been linked to multiple players who could make a difference down the stretch.

The Orioles even were called the "best fit" to land Detroit Tigers superstar and American League Cy Young award frontrunner Tarik Skubal if he were to be traded by Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer.

"Per (Bob Nightengale), the Orioles are the other team in on Skubal," Rymer said. "He makes way more sense for them than (Garrett Crochet), as Skubal is still racking up six or seven innings per start while Crochet has just three outings and 10 innings to show for July.

"Joel Sherman of the New York Post made waves when he floated a Jackson Holliday-centered trade package for Skubal on MLB Network. But while that would get the job done in theory, it's not Baltimore's only hypothetical avenue to a satisfactory proposal."

Skubal is a true superstar and won't be a free agent until 2027. The Orioles already are great and considered one of the best teams in baseball, but adding Skubal could take them to another level. He is just 27 years old and could give the Orioles a boost for years to come. Plus, a duo of Skubal and Corbin Burnes together down the stretch would be terrifying for opposing teams.
