Aurora’s pallet shelters for people experiencing homelessness, which only allow a maximum 30-day stay, have been cycling the same individuals in and out, city staff told council members Thursday. Many return to street encampments when their time in the pallet shelter runs out, Jessica Prosser, homeless services director for the city, said. Then, the city sweeps the encampment again, and they get to come back to the shelter for another 30 days, Prosser explained. This process can repeat multiple times.

On my trip from New York to Boston, I booked a ticket on Amtrak’s Northeast Regional, since I live much closer to Penn Station than any of the New York City airports. On the New York to Boston route, there are the Acela trains and the Northeast Regional trains. The time difference between the Acela and Northeast Regional vary based on the schedules. Generally, the Acela can save about 30 minutes in travel time compared to the Northeast Regional for the little over 200-mile New York Penn to Boston South Station route. This Northeast Regional I booked was scheduled for 4 hours and 20 minutes, and I booked the Acela in the return direction which was 4 hours flat.

The Labor Department is reviewing United Airlines’ leave policies after the carrier implemented stricter measures to crack down on employees abusing sick time. 

“Through numerous recent inquiries from workers, the Wage and Hour Division has become aware of a possible change in United Airlines’ leave policies,” said Jessica Looman, the Labor Department’s wage and hour administrator. 

Looman said the department will be working with the airline and workers to ensure that the company’s leave policies are in compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act.”
