‘I think it’s a really good thing:’ Bamberg Job Corps offering employment resources

BAMBERG, S.C. (WJBF) —- A Bamberg County program is expanding its youth education and job training with a new option. The Bamberg Job Corps Center is now a SC Works Connections Point.

“I think it’s a really good thing, like the center needed something like this for quite some time,” student Cody Hall said.

Hall is one of nearly 200 students at Bamberg Job Corps Center. The program offers free education and job training for young people ages 16 to 24. “In this area we got a rural area and disadvantaged youth. So many in this area that don’t have the opportunities that others other places have,” Safety and Security Manager Leslie Hayes added.

The center, now a SC Works Connections Point. It will be the first career training program in Bamberg and the Lower Savannah Region to offer dedicated job resources. “They’re able to come in, explore the possibilities that their future. They can join Job Corps, log in, look at the different industries, look at the different opportunities for them,” Acting Regional Director Victoria Young.

The lab is not just for Job Corps students but also offers resources for the local community. “I think it would bring in more industry because we’re able to do more hard events here and it’s an opportunity not only for the students but also the community and also to give more exposure to the center and employers,” Regional Manager Tameka Johnson said.

“I feel like this is definitely gonna be a big help,” student Dayshia Cole added.

The center will be open to the community on Wednesdays from 12 until 2 p.m.
