A judge denied a guilty plea Tuesday in the killing at Damon’s Beverage in Waterville last year.

The family of victim Angela Bragg was emotional outside court Tuesday.

“Some people need to understand that some people are evil,” daughter Kaitlyn Bragg said.

Kaitlyn Bragg was upset her mother’s alleged killer wasn’t allowed to plead guilty Tuesday.

Spridal Hubiak, 21, is accused of killing 52-year-old Angela Bragg at Damon’s Beverage where the two worked.

Hubiak wanted to change his plea to guilty Tuesday, but the judge denied it because Hubiak was trying to plead guilty against the advice of his attorney.

Instead, Hubiak will undergo a competency evaluation.

Bragg’s ex-husband David Bragg suggested that Hubiak was obsessed with Angela Bragg and that may have motivated the slaying.

“He was infatuated with her,” the ex-husband said. “He was in love with her and wanted to date her. She was 52, and he’s 21.”

He said that Bragg was an exceptional person who would frequently bring people in who were dealing with difficulties.

Hubiak’s next court appearance is set for Oct. 11 after the competency evaluation.
