A contract worker at a solar farm in Surry died Thursday morning after reportedly being electrocuted, though the cause of the death has still not been determined.

Two workers were at the Nexamp site on Surry Road about 10:59 a.m. when one of them was reported as being electrocuted, according to Surry Fire Chief Bryan McLellan.

Two firefighters performed CPR when they arrived at the scene, McLellan said.

Despite life-saving measures, the worker died at the scene.

The victim’s identity wasn’t released. The Maine State Police are investigating the death.

Nexamp is a Boston-based solar energy company.

A spokesperson for the company, Keith Hevenor, said the cause of the death has still not been determined and that the worker’s family has been notified. He noted the worker was a third-party contractor.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that there was a fatality today at our Surry Solar site,” Hevenor said. “At this time, the exact cause is still under investigation, and we are working closely with authorities to determine what happened. Safety is our top priority at Nexamp, and we adhere to the most stringent safety protocols for both our team members and contractors.”

Hevenor added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life.”

No additional information was immediately available.
