A 23-year-old Virginia woman who went missing last week after traveling to Maine has been found dead in York County.

Police received a call on Monday afternoon reporting a dead body in a vehicle parked near Goodwins Mill Road in the town of Dayton.

The deceased person matched the description of Autumn Cleveland of Newport News, Virginia, Maine State Police said in a news release.

Her cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy. The state police Major Crimes Unit has started an investigation into the incident. Police say there is no danger to the public.

Cleveland’s mother in a Facebook post said her daughter drove to Maine on Friday, Aug. 30, spent the night in a short-term rental and checked out the next day.

Autumn Cleveland sent her mother a text that evening, she said, and spoke to her sister and father, after which her phone was off, her mother said.

As a parent of adult children this is a worst nightmare for us. My heart breaks for the parents and family. No one should have to bury their child. I am so sorry for your loss and saying prayers with comfort sent to you. I shared the missing flyers hoping this would turn out differently. 😔
