Bucksport High School closed early Wednesday because of a “safety concern.”

School officials announced just before 11 a.m. that students were being dismissed after a “safety concern” was communicated through social media.

“This action is out of an abundance of caution to allow for further investigation. There is no injury or active incident at the building,” school officials said.

It’s the latest incident to mar the beginning of the school year in Maine. Earlier this month, Maine School Administrative District 44 canceled classes after a threat targeted the Telstar school complex in Bethel.

That came on the heels of a threat directed toward Dexter-based SAD 46 before the first day of class on Aug. 28, prompting officials there to cancel classes and after-school activities. Then days later someone made a threat against Regional School Unit 20 , which serves Searsport and Stockton Springs, but officials ruled the threat not credible. That came in the wake of a shooting at a Georgia high school that left two students and two teachers dead and several others wounded.

No additional information was immediately available.

This is the fifth? (I believe) time the police have been at RSU 25 for unexpected “Safety Incidents” in the past month. When is the superintendent’s office or administration going to make a public statement about these happenings? And it seems like someone has requested that any Facebook posts in regard to the situation be monitored so if any comments are made with specifics they are removed immediately. It’s disappointing to see the lake of communication coming from the school district.
