Longtime Brewer city manager retires

Stephen Bost retired from his position as Brewer city manager after 25 years in the role.

The city announced his retirement in the September issue of Brewer’s monthly newsletter, the Brewer Chronicle. His last day in the position wasn’t immediately clear.

In a statement to city staff, Bost said he is honored to have worked with them for more than two decades and he is grateful for the community’s support.

“The objective has been, and will continue to be, ensuring that Brewer remains a great place to live, work, grow a business, and raise a family,” Bost wrote. “It also benefits by having an exceptional education system.”

Eric Glidden, Brewer’s assistant city manager, is filling in as city manager in the interim.

“The continuity of city operations has been very smooth so far,” Glidden said.

Glidden previously served as interim city manager when Bost went on medical leave in November 2023 . At the time, Glidden had only been assistant city manager for 11 days.

Glidden previously served as a town clerk in Hermon and Searsport and worked as a management assistant in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Glidden declined to comment on if or when city councilors intend to post the open city manager position.
