LEWISTON, Maine — Lewiston Police are investigating after they responded to a shooting report at a back to school event and a separate report of shots fired shortly after that on Friday night.

At around 6:50 p.m., police arrived at McGraw Park in Lewiston after shots had been reported. Witnesses told police that a teenage male appeared at the event and fired a gun into the air and the ground.

A vehicle was struck by the shots but no one was injured. One woman was treated for an asthma attack at the scene.

The park was filled with hundreds of people, mostly children, while school supplies were being distributed for the upcoming school year, officials said.

At around 7:04 p.m., Lewiston Police responded to the area of Pine and Horton Street for another report that shots had been fired.

When police arrived, witnesses told them that the shots may have come from a vehicle or teenagers that were in the area.

No injuries or damages were reported.

Both investigations remain active. It is unclear right now if the two shootings are connected.
