Soboleski running for second Maine House term after losing CD2 primary

After an unsuccessful primary race for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, Republican Mike Soboleski is running for reelection to the state House of Representatives.

Soboleski represented District 73 in Phillips during the 131st Legislature, but did not run for reelection opting instead to vye for a federal seat. Kevin Lee Scott originally ran to replace Soboleski, but withdrew from the race in mid-June.

A Republican caucus was held last week to select Soboleski as the replacement candidate to defend his current seat for the western Maine district, according to a news release. Now, Soboleski will be on the Nov. 5 ballot, where he will face independent Tiffany Bond, an attorney who ran in the 2022 U.S. House race against Democratic incumbent Rep. Jared Golden and former Rep. Bruce Poliquin, a Republican.

“There’s a lot of work left to do,” Soboleski said. “There will be a whole host of new issues in the 132 nd Legislature and I am excited to advocate for common sense solutions to them.”

Soboleski lost to state Rep. Austin Theriault, a Republican from Fort Kent, in the June primary race for the 2nd Congressional District 33.1 to 66.9 percent.
