A Bar Harbor woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after she hit a utility pole in the town of Levant, Tuesday morning, and was thrown from her car.

The crash was reported at about 9:30 a.m.

From an initial investigation, police determined that Jennifer Archie, 38, was traveling west on Avenue Road when she lost control of her 2010 Toyota Corolla and hit a utility pole. She was ejected from the car, which caught on fire, according to Maine State Police.

Archie was brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Police said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. They do not know if Archie was wearing a seatbelt.

Avenue Road, which begins where Route 222, also known as Union Street, turns west toward Newport, was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
