    ‘He will forever be a Knight’: Cabell Midland community mourning after death of teen

    UPDATE (2:59 p.m. on Friday, July 5): The Cabell Midland High School community is mourning after a student was killed in a crash in Barboursville on Thursday.

    Cabell Midland High School Principal Matt Adkins said in a statement, “It is with heavy hearts that the staff and administration of Cabell Midland wish to offer our deepest condolences to Braxton’s family. He will forever be a Knight.”

    “Our staff joins with our community in mourning this tragic loss,” Superintendent Tim Hardesty said in a statement. “The families of those involved as well as all who loved them are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”


    UPDATE (2:07 p.m. on Friday, July 5): The teen who died in Thursday’s Barboursville crash has been identified and a man will be arrested on DUI charges after he is released from the hospital, according to the Barboursville Police Department.

    The Barboursville Police Department says Braxton McComas, 17, of Huntington, was driving when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Joshua Wilson, 23, of Middleport, Ohio.

    McComas died at the scene and the teen passenger in his vehicle was taken to the hospital, the Barboursville PD says. Wilson was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Arrest warrants have been obtained for Wilson. His charges at this time include DUI causing death and DUI causing bodily injury. He will be arrested when he is released from the hospital, according to the BPD.

    “My heartfelt sorrow and thoughts go out to the victims and their families,” Cabell County Prosector Jason Spears says. “I cannot imagine the pain that they are enduring at this time.”

    Occupants of a third vehicle involved in the crash were not injured, according to the Barboursville Police Department.


    UPDATE (12:03 p.m. on Friday, July 5): A teenager died in a crash near Barboursville on Thursday, according to the Barboursville Police Department.

    Two others were taken to the hospital, according to the police department. They do not know the extent of their injuries, but they are not expected to leave the hospital on Friday.


    UPDATE (9:58 p.m. Thursday, July 4): One person has died following a crash near Barboursville Thursday night.

    That’s according to first responders in Barboursville who tell 13 News that the extent of the other injuries in the three-vehicle crash is not known at this time.

    The area at the intersection of Route 60 at Davis Creek Road/Alternate 10 near Barboursville is expected to be closed for several hours.

    BARBOURSVILLE, WV (WOWK) — Crews are on the scene of an accident that is expected to have the road closed for a few hours.

    It happened in Barboursville around 9 p.m. Thursday night at the intersection of Route 60 at Davis Creek Road/Alternate 10.

    According to an emergency alert people are being asked to avoid the area.

    The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.
