CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A man accused in a deadly Fourth of July crash that killed a teenager in Barboursville has been indicted by a grand jury.
According to an indictment from Cabell County Circuit Court, Joshua Wilson, 23, of Middleport, Ohio, has been indicted on charges of “driving under the influence causing death” and “driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury.” The charges stem from the death of 17-year-old Braxton McComas and the injuries Braxton’s passenger sustained.
Around 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, first responders in Cabell County answered the call to the scene of a deadly car crash on Route 60 in Barboursville. Three vehicles were involved.
McComas, a Cabell Midland High School student, died when the vehicle he was driving was struck in the crash, according to police. His passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries. The passenger is still in the hospital as of Friday, July 26.
The driver of the second vehicle, Wilson, was also taken to the hospital and was charged with DUI causing death upon his release, according to police. The occupants of the third vehicle were not injured, according to the Barboursville Police Department.
Wilson was booked into the Western Regional Jail on Friday, July 26. There is no word yet on if a bond amount has been set.
