UPDATE: Crash turns into hit-and-run investigation after driver struck on I-64

UPDATE (12 p.m. Tuesday, July 30) – A crash on I-64 involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car turned into a hit-and-run after the tractor-trailer driver was struck by a third vehicle.

According to the Barboursville Police Department, the original crash happened shortly before 5:45 a.m. Tuesday near the 29th Street exit of I-64E. The BPD says before officers got to the scene, the tractor-trailer driver walked to the passenger car to check on the driver.

Police say while the tractor-trailer driver was standing on the right-hand side of the road, they were struck by a newer-model white Chevrolet Silverado traveling east. The Silverado then left the scene.

According to the BPD, the tractor-trailer driver was taken to the hospital. There is no word on the extent of their injuries at this time.

Police say they are searching for the Silverado, and say the vehicle is missing its passenger-side mirror and should have damage on the front and passenger side. Anyone with any information on the pickup truck can contact the BPD at 304-735-5203 ext. 414.

The investigation remains under investigation.

UPDATE (8:02 a.m. Tuesday, July 30) – All lanes of I-64 East are back open after a crash Tuesday morning.

HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – A crash near Exit 15 on I-64 East in Huntington early Tuesday morning has closed all lanes of traffic.

According to Cabell County 911 dispatchers, the crash happened near the 29th Street exit, but traffic is being held at the Hal Greer exit for now. The crash involved a car and a tractor-trailer with one person taken to a local hospital for injuries.

There is no estimate for when traffic will reopen. Commuters may want to consider an alternate route.
